I was born and raised in Hillsboro, Oregon. While I have traveled and lived outside of the country, I could never resist the siren call of the Pacific Northwest. My father always encouraged artistic expression, and to this day, he has a range of my attempts in different mediums from over the years decorating his home. As an adult, I always kept art as my hobby, and at times, I was able to bring it together with my work. After spending a handful of years working with children with special needs, providing art, motor skills, and speech therapy programs, the pandemic hit. I moved into supportive nursing care for adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. I have loved that work and all of the wonderful people I have cared for.
But something was missing: art. After almost losing my father in 2022, I was reminded of the things in life that we love and always cherish. It was almost fate that my longtime friends at Destination Ink contacted me about an open piercing apprenticeship. An environment that encourages artistic expression, and I get to work with two of my favorite people. How could I ever say no? My years working in healthcare gave me the confidence to go for it. What a wonderful time it has been. Body piercing and modifications have always been a way I've expressed myself in the past, but being able to help others achieve that has always been one of my biggest goals.
Now, working part-time at both Destination Ink and in-home care for one of my longest clients, I have two careers where I get to be a part of that.
