Permanent Makeup FAQ
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
Microblading is the most common form of permanent eyebrow tattooing using a hand held tool to manually create natural looking hair strokes. The hairs can be placed closer together than machine hair strokes, giving a fuller, denser, more defined brow shape. This service usually lasts 1-2 years before needing a touch up to maintain shape and color.
WHAT ARE MACHINE HAIR STROKES?
Natural hair stokes are created using a silent tattoo machine and single needle. This style of brow looks fluffy with a less “manicured” shape than microblading. It’s a good option for people who are not good candidates for microblading due to skin type. If you have oily, porous, very thick or thin/fragile skin, machine applied pigment may be a better option for you! This service lasts longer than microblading and ages more like a regular tattoo before needing a touch up, typically 2-3 years.
WHAT ARE FUSION BROWS?
Fusion Brows refers to using a hair strokes in combination with shading to create a more defined brow. Shading gives density to desired areas, while still having natural hair strokes in all the right places. This is a great option for people with hair in some parts of the brow but not in others. I also find clients who are used to applying brow makeup enjoy the results of Fusion Brows better than hair strokes alone. This service lasts 1-3 years depending on the client and if hair strokes are created manually or by machine.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Come to your appointment well hydrated. Avoid natural blood thinners such as alcohol, ibuprofen, or any other pain relievers 24-48 hours before your appointment. Caffeine the day of the procedure may increase discomfort levels and blood flow. Exercising before the brows are done flaking will result in poor healed results. Retin A and fish oil must be stopped at least 10 days prior to the service. Botox administered within three weeks before the appointment will result in a reschedule. It is not advised to have your brows done before a vacation.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Proper aftercare will save your pigment from fading. Typically, permanent makeup will last 1-3 years. This however can be affected by the use of harsh topical skin care around the area, unprotected UV exposure, and improper aftercare. Most clients will experience a bold, crisp immediate result that will heal into a diffused and softened version of their initial treatment.
DOES IT HURT?
While everyone’s pain tolerance varies, I numb my clients with topical numbing cream, and use another numbing solution throughout the process as well. Most clients experience little to no discomfort.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?
The healing process takes 4-6 weeks, however it will look healed faster than this. As the ink settles in, the skin and pigment will go through a few phases while healing. Initially the new pigment will appear darker than normal for 2-5 days. Then the tattooed skin flake and exfoliate naturally. It is normal for the color to flake off and appear softer and less visible during the healing process, but the pigment will reappear in the following days.
HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO FOLLOW-UP?
Permanent makeup is completed in two (or more) sittings. A complimentary touchup appointment will be scheduled 6-10 weeks after your initial service. Understand that most clients will need more than 1 session to achieve ideal results. Oily skin types will need more followup appointments to maintain shape and color than dry skin. Some clients may desire an “extra session”, especially if they have little brow hair to begin with or desire very dark/bold brows. With understanding that any needed/desired additional appointments are not fault of the technician, an extra session may be warranted in some cases. Price varies depending on amount of time since your last service.
CAN I CHOOSE MY SHAPE?
I provide each of my clients with an in-depth mapping and analysis. We will work together to outline a shape that compliments your facial structure and personal style. No tattooing will occur without your approval of the shape beforehand. You’ll have the opportunity to make changes before the procedure begins.
CANCELATION & RESCHEDULING POLICY:
In the event that I cancel my appointment with less than 48 hours notice, I understand that I will forfeit my deposit and I will need to leave a new one to make another appointment. If I need to reschedule, my deposit will stay on file only if I give Christina at least 48 hours notice. I may reschedule my appointment 1x (ONE TIME) regarding my initial appointment + followup appointment. If I need to reschedule an appointment more than once, another deposit will be required to make a new appointment. This includes, but is not limited to, any kind of illness or family emergency, car/transportation issues, childcare issues, pet illness or financial crisis. In the event that you need to cancel your appointment due to pregnancy, you will need to make a new deposit when you are ready to get tattooed again.
TOUCHUP POLICY: Your complimentary touchup will be scheduled for 6-10 weeks after you initial service. If you are unable to keep your followup appointment date within this window, the touchup will NO LONGER be free- price will vary depending on amount of time since your last service.
LATE POLICY: Clients 10-15 minutes late to their appointment may need to be rescheduled. This is not a punishment, but due to the amount of clients seen in a day. I won’t rush the process, nor am I willing to risk running late for all of my following clients. Being 20+ minutes late will result in loss of the deposit, another deposit will be required before rescheduling.
